The Oberoi Marrakech – That Big Estate Energy

So, this was my first time in Morocco. I stayed at The Oberoi Marrakech, and honestly, it felt less like a hotel and more like I’d accidentally moved into someone’s massive private estate. Not flashy, just effortlessly grand.

First Impressions – “Oh…This Is Big”

The Oberoi picked me up from the airport. The car was well-stocked with water, snacks, and even QR codes to start planning my life at the resort before I got there. Nice touch.

As we left the city, I could tell I wasn’t heading to just another hotel. Pulling up, I was hit with the marble, the massive water feature, the huge doors. And inside? High ceilings, endless courtyards, water features everywhere. It felt like I was arriving at someone’s private Moroccan estate. Not a hotel, an estate.

After tea and the usual check-in rundown, I got taken to my villa by golf cart. Which, by the way, you’ll definitely need.

This place is big.

My Villa – Big Estate Energy…Activate

I stayed in a one-bedroom deluxe villa, and when I pulled up to it, I had that “oh… this is for me?” moment.

The villas are tucked away between olive trees, so everything feels private. Walking inside, it felt like home in the best possible way. High ceilings, gold and cream tones, blackout shades that lower at the press of a button. A full living area, a stocked minibar, and just quiet luxury without any of the fuss.

Then you open the doors to your courtyard. Private pool, loungers, silence. You could easily never leave and be perfectly content. The villa is designed for that.

The bathroom setup is smart. You can step straight from your pool into the shower, which makes total sense. Inside, you’ve got a soaking tub, heated towel racks, a big dressing area, and a walk-in closet.

And yes, the straw hat and cooler bag waiting in the room? Once I put that hat on, I felt like I belonged. Maybe it was the villa. Maybe it was the hat. Probably both.

Food & Drink – Dinner Won, Lunch Lost

I ate at all three restaurants, Tamimt, Azure, and Rivayat. Rivayat was easily the highlight. It’s their Michelin-starred restaurant, and honestly, it delivered. One of the best meals I’ve had in a while.

The other two restaurants? Pretty underwhelming. At lunch, I ordered a club sandwich and had to do something I rarely do…I sent it back. I found myself explaining to the chef how to make a club sandwich, which is not what I expected during lunch at a resort like this. But credit to them…the chef came out, apologized, and really wanted to fix it. Service was excellent, even if the meal wasn’t.

So overall: dinner’s worth dressing up for. Lunch? Maybe stick to basics. But you’re close enough to Marrakech for plenty of great meal options if needed.

The Grounds – Walk, Bike, or Ride

This property is massive. You’ll be walking, biking, or riding around on golf carts. If you want to stay put, book a room in the main building by the pool and restaurants. My villa was lovely, but spread out.

Even with my own pool, I enjoyed the vibe at the main pool. Sometimes being part of the scene felt good.

Final Thoughts – Big Estate Energy, Fully Delivered

The Oberoi Marrakech was exactly what I needed,a quiet retreat after exploring the chaos of the Medina. It’s private, serene, and thoughtfully designed. The food had its highs and lows, but the service and villa made up for it.

Would I stay again? Absolutely. This place works for couples, families, friends, solo travelers…anyone who wants to escape and stay somewhere that just makes sense.
